Sen. Rick Scott visits Cape Coral as residents look to restore Cape Coral Yacht Club

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Florida Senator Rick Scott toured one of Cape Coral’s most devastated areas after Hurricane Ian. His goal was to assess the needs of neighbors in the immediate Cape Coral Yacht Club area as a representative for FEMA.

“How do we help these problems? You feel sorry for these families when you your that are s struggling,” he said, “This was a tough storm. You feel sorry for people.”

Scott first toured the Cape Coral Yacht Club. Neighbors like Mark Giardetti are anxious to see it reopen. “I hope to see a reinvigorated effort to retain what we have with that Yacht Club park. That is a jewel. It is everything that is wonderful about Southwest Florida packed into a small area,” he said.

Senator Scott then got into a car with Mayor John Gunter and County Commissioner Brian Hamman to drive around the community.

Neighbor Irene Giordano was relieved. She said, “Just making sure we’re all taken care of and when we need help to help us out and take care of the trash and things around here.”

Thursday morning, Cape Coral city leaders will review an engineer evaluation of the yacht club in an annual retreat.
